The ABS wheel speed sensor measures the rotational speed of the wheel and sends this data to the ABS/ESP control unit, which uses it to prevent wheel lock-up under braking and maintain stability control. A faulty sensor commonly triggers the ABS, ESP or traction control warning lights and can disable those systems.
